Every Dog Deserves A Special Friend Like You

We are an all volunteer organization. No one is paid a salary to foster or process applications. It does cost money to rescue a dog and we can use all the help we can get! We know a lot of people would love to help but can’t adopt right now.

Now you can help us by Sponsoring one of these special dogs below that need extra help.

You can sponsor an older or needier foster that has touched your heart. With your donation you can be that special dogs sponsor ! Your name will then appear as sponsor under that dogs picture and bio. We are a 501(c)(3) non profit and your donation is tax deductible.

If you would like to be a Sponsor, or Donor, to one of the dogs below using PayPal; just click on the donation button for that dog. If you want to donate by sending a check you can mail it to : STARS of Texas, PO Box 1075, Quinlan Texas, 75474, or you can e-mail us to find out how you can help, or other things we may need, using our  I WANT TO HELP  form. If you would like to sponsor one of our current foster dogs, just include the dogs name when you contact us to sponsor. Please don't hesitate to be a second sponsor if a dog already has one sponsor. Many of these guys have so many medical needs that they need all the extra help we can get from loving caring people like you!   Please visit our sponsor page to acknowledge our special rescue friends and sponsors.

You can help a shelter dog by donating to our Medical, Heartworm, Eye Care or Sweetie Fund.

Eye Care Fund

August 2004 - A fund set up for medical care for the eye injuries so often seen in neglected Shih Tzu and Lhasas

Eye Care Fund     Many of our rescued Shih Tzu and Lhasas come in with injuries to the eyes.....
Bear Bear is just one of the many Shih Tzu and Lhasas that have come to us needing expensive medications and/or surgery to save their eyesight and/or eyes. Bear Bear had surgery on August 17th to correct a condition called Cherry Eye in both of his eyes. Bear came through the surgery fine and should have an excellent outcome from the procedure done. Many of these little guys come in with corneal ulcers, infections or cataracts and require costly medications and/or surgery to save their vision and/or the eye itself. To save an eye that has a perforated corneal ulcer can cost up to $1200. depending on the severity.
60% of the little dogs we get from the shelters have a condition called "KCS or Dry Eye" that requires medicated eye drops to prevent ulcers. Please help save one of our rescued Shih Tzu and Lhasas' eyes.   Your donation CAN help!

This fund has helped: Bear-Bear, Ivy, Brandy, Princess, Madhu, Wooley and Sawyer with surgery and many others needing medications for their eyes.

Sweetie's Fund

July 2003 - A fund set up specifically to care for any Shih Tzu with immediate, life threatening injuries.

Sweetie Emergency Fund      I called him "Sweetie" as I gently held him in my arms....
The morning started out as usual with much to do and several fosters to care for. Then the call came from a Dallas shelter. They had an emergency request for a little 7 - 8 month old Shih Tzu with multiple severe injuries. They suspected he had been hit by a car and then left outside the shelter. Shelter personnel had found him placed under the bushes when they had arrived. Could we help him? They stressed the need for immediate care as he was in shock and they suspected internal bleeding. I told them we would be there within the hour. As I raced to the shelter, I went over the options I had to get him the emergency care he needed. It was a Friday and both of our vets that had the equipment to handle this would be closed before I could reach them. I decided I would have to take this little one to the nearest veterinary emergency hospital

Heartworm Treatment Fund

This fund will help us treat the many dogs we get into rescue that already have heartworms and require treatment.

Many of the little dogs in our area shelters come into our foster care with heartworms. In Texas, as in many other states, heartworm prevention year round is an absolute must! Not every owner is aware of this so we see a lot of dogs with heartworms :-( Heartworm treatment for these little guys is not only a bit costly but is also hard on these babies. Monthly heartworm prevention is very effective and inexpensive.. Please keep your furbabies on monthly heartworm prevention year round!

Basic Medical Care Fund

Almost all of the little furballs we are asked to take from area shelters need a bit more medical treatment than our usual adoption fee will cover. The average medical and foster cost for each dog coming in to rescue is approximatly $350.. Our average adoption fee is only $250. Without your help we would not be able to continue to help these little ones get the basic care they need and find them the home they deserve. No donation is too small to help!
Every dog in our care receives Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested, and receive treatment, for parasites and heartworms. All are spayed or neutered and implanted with microchip identifications. Most will also need pre-surgery bloodwork screening and a dental. Every Shih Tzu or Lhasa needs a day at the grooming salon to make them ready to meet with potential new families :-)

A $10.00 donation will provide monthly heartworm prevention for 3 dogs.
A $15.00 donation will provide 1 dog with a rabies or DHPP vaccine.
A $25.00 donation will pay for a grooming.
A $40.00 donation will pay for pre-op bloodwork
A $50.00 donation will pay for a spay or neuter
